A rant on Australian Startups

I'm a software developer.

I'm also a business news junkie.

Naturally, I'm drawn to startups.

The problem is, Australian startups are kind of lame.

"We're the Australian version of <insert Silicon Valley start-up here>", they will say.

And bam. All excitement gone.

Any chance of doing something new, gone. You know you'll just be copying what's already been done and hoping for the same result (divided by ten, if you're lucky).

Any chance of having a surprise valuation, gone. You just look at the American version's market cap, and slice it by 10 (and that's as a ceiling).  

Maybe I should stick to pure SaaS?
